| The Main Prophets of Islam
In Islam there are thousands of prophets. I shall mention the six most important prophets. You may be surprised to recognise some of the prophets listed from Judaism and Christianity.
Adam- The first human and first Muslim
Ibrahim- (Abraham) Father of Ishmael and Isaac. Ibrahim is seen as the greatest prophet before Isa. His willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael* is remembered during the festival of Eid-al adha. * In Islam the story involves Ishmael not Isaac as it is in Judaism and Christianity.
Musa- (Moses) Allah sent the Torah to Musa but the message got distorted by the people.
Dawud- (David) Dawud was the king of Israel. Allah sent him a message but it was not written down until long after his death and again the message became distorted.
Isa-(Jesus) Second to Muhammad Jesus and his mother Maryam (Mary) are the most discussed figures in the Qur'an. Islam teaches that Isa was given the message of the Gospel by Allah. Isa was born to a virgin but was never in fact killed. Instead he was lifted up into heaven by Allah. Isa is a very important prophet in Islam but he is not the Son of God.
Muhammad- The most important of all prophets. Muhammad is known as the Seal of the Prophets as he received the final and complete message from Allah, The Holy Qur'an. Muhammad again is only a human but he is seen as the perfect example and Muslims all over the world do try to follow his example. Muhammad was born in Arabia in 570 CE he is credited with founding the religion of Islam and died in 632 CE.
