| Umm Roomaan
Her actual name was Zainab. She was the wife of Abu Bakr as Siddique and the mother of Aishah. Thus she was the Prophet’s mother-in-law. She was among the first to accept Islaam. She took courage from her husband’s unwavering faith and dedication to the cause of Islaam and also instilled these characteristics in her children, Abdurrahmaan and Aishah. The Prophet would personally encourage her to keep on doing this.
When Abu Bakr left with the Prophet on the migration to Madinah, he took all his money with him, but left his family behind. Even though this caused the family some hardship, the only concern Umm Romaan had was for the safe arrival in Madinah of the Prophet and her husband. After they settled in Madinah, the Prophet and Abu Bakr sent for their families.
Umm Roomaan was known for her dedication to prayer and meditation and eagerly learn from her husband all there was to know.
Umm Roomaan reportedly passed away in the 6th year of the Hijrah and on the occasion of her funeral the Prophet is reported to have said. “If any person wants to see a beautiful virgin of paradise, he can see Umm Rooman.” | |
